MUSIC IS LIFE FESTIVAL AIMS TO RAISE CANCER AWARENESS
Scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2006 at Bryan’s Grove in Potter’s Mills, PA, the inaugural Music is Life Festival aims to raise funds and awareness for Center County leukemia survivors. Area musicians have lined up to volunteer their services for a full day of music, food, drink, and fellowship.
Each year nearly 1.4 million Americans are stricken with some form of cancer, 35,000 specifically with leukemia. Aside from the devastating news that a loved one has been diagnosed, most families are then forced to deal with the crippling aftermath of painful treatments, loss of income, and the increased financial burden of caring for a loved one (often times without the assistance of insurance).
To provide some aid and comfort, the Music is Life Festival will raise funds through a day long event featuring the best of Pennsylvania’s Americana musicians. Local institution JR Mangan opens the festival, offering up his acoustic take on folk and classic rock favorites. From the Selinsgrove area come three incredible singer/songwriters - Hannah Bingham, Van Wagner, and Doug McMinn offering a mix of original songs and traditional tunes. Central Pennsylvania favorites Grantham Road will be on hand with their own brand of raucous roots rock. Rusty Gun Revival brings their rockabilly swagger to the festival, while Oak & Ivy showcase stellar harmonies and a knack for clever songwriting. State College regulars the Jazz Carpenters, Mike Swavely & the Chromagnatones, the King Cotton Rounders, and the Rustlanders complete the lineup, offering up a blend of bluegrass, early rock & roll, and country rock stylings.
Information on the festival can be found at http://musicislifefestival.blogspot.com/, or by calling 814-321-3704. Tickets will be available at the gate the day of the show for $10, cash only please. Primitive camping is provided for those looking to camp overnight - don't forget your tents and sleeping bags. Onsite food, drink, and raffle prizes will also be available.
